What made you want to start DJing/producing?
Honestly, I was a shy kid in school, and wanted to impress girls. So when I went to my school’s dance, I saw this DJ who did not look good have all of these girls around him. So…I watched his hands they way he triggered the song to make the blend, and taught myself how to DJ. I first wanted the attention, but then getting deeper into it, I began to truly love the art.
Who is your biggest influence(s)?
My biggest influence comes from many, not just one. Watching and learning from so many talented DJ’s and Producers to always keep myself fresh and eager to never become complacent. I believe that we all can learn from one another.
Whats you’re favorite record of all time?
There are so many records over my 30 years of playing music, that I can’t just name one. I’ve had the privilege of living through many genres and generations of music from Disco, Funk and Soul to the beginnings of House Music, to now. So it is very difficult for me to answer this question with one song…lol.
What was your favorite party of all time that you have played?
OMG!! There have been sooooo many parties I’ve played over the years. So many great memories I cherish. Ummmmm….I would have to try and say Ministry of Sound in London. To Sensation in Santiago, Chile and the Festivals in Holland. Amazing experiences.
Who is your favorite artist to collaborate with?
I mean, I’ve collaborated with a lot of amazing artist, such as: Melba Moore, Robin S, Cece Peniston, Destiny’s Child, Bob Sinclar just to name a few. I’ve had and continue to have great experiences in the studio.
Who do you want to collaborate with in the future?
I would love to collaborate with Chaka Khan and Aretha Franklin. People who truly love the music, and have a legacy in the industry.
What’s the most embarrassing thing thats happened to you at a show?
I was heading towards a tent that I was playing at during a festival in Amsterdam, and while I was getting out of the boat, I fell in the water, came up, pants fell off…lol. Totally funny….I still rocked the tent.
What do you like to do when you’re not working on music/DJing?
Laying up watching TV with the love of my life….
What is your opinion on the current EDM scene?
It has brought so many people towards the Electronic music world. It has opened a lot of doors for many people to benefit in many ways. So, I think it’s a great introduction to the music scene and as people get older, they will explore other genres.
What do you think will be the next big thing in EDM?
Well…House Music in it’s truest form will get another chance at the spotlight. I mean like the early days of Trax Records, DJ international, Nervous and Strictly Rhythm. Pure raw House.
What do you think about all these “frauds” in the EDM scene using ghost producers, buying likes and purchasing their own tracks on Beatport?
Well. Once Corporations control a sound and scene, this type of thing happens. It becomes a scene of Perception and not reality. House Music has always been that Organic genre. So we all have to just wait till this takeover is over…
Is there any upcoming releases/shows we should keep an eye out for?
I have releases coming out on labels: Vamos Music, Jango Music, Zulu Records and my own label: SYS Music. Shows in Dubai, Switzerland and Spain..
