Back in March, we did an Artist Spotlight interview with Statut3. He recently changed his stage name to Bentley Dean and also changed his sound. He has put out 3 remixes within the last month and he’s also been playing some major shows with big name artists. We decided to catch up with him and see what else is new. Check out the little interview below and take a listen to some of his latest releases.
You were our first ever Artist Spotlight as Statut3. Why did you decide to change your name to Bentley Dean?
The most obvious reason is the spelling and recognition of my name. I heard so many different pronunciations it was ridiculous but the one I really didn’t like was “statue” because I didn’t want to be known as the DJ that stands dead still during his set. The new name is easy to say, spell and remember, and also sounds a lot more fitting for the new direction I’m taking with my career.
How has this affected you as an artist?
To be honest I thought it would set me back a lot more than it actually did. Finally releasing my own music has definitely helped me stay to the point where I was and I believe I will be advancing a lot further with my career as long I keep working hard.
You’ve not only changed your stage name, but also your style. Tell us a little bit about the new musical direction you chose to go.
I’m leaning more towards the underground deep and tech side of music now. Of course Deadmau5 is still one of my biggest influences as a producer, so you may notice when I’ve spent way too much time blasting While (1<2). There’s something about making people dance rather than jump that really appeals to me both as a producer and DJ. Not only are the listeners into the music more but I can get into it a lot more as well.
Lately you’ve been focusing a lot of your time in the studio towards remixes, can we expect some originals from you in the near future?
Yes. I will be releasing originals for sure, it’s just a matter of getting some recognition with some of my remixes before unleashing some original tunes for everyone to enjoy
Is there any upcoming shows/releases you’d like everyone to keep an eye out for?
I will be trying to do one release every few weeks. I haven’t announced my next one release yet as I still haven’t decided which track I want out there next. Show wise the next huge show I’m excited for is New Years Eve at H.O.M.E. Bar. The line up is stacked with amazing artists, United2Nite really set up an epic show for everyone to enjoy!
