What made you want to start DJing/producing?
I’ve always listened to Pretty Lights, he was my in to electronic music and was kind of the bridge from funky groovy stuff to that electronic bass. When I got back from college I had some free time and I just got into it, I started messing around with my computer and one thing led to another. I moved to Lincoln Park and got my first gig at Barn & Company. I knew Dangerwayne from high school and one night when he was at an after party of mine, he introduced me to Phil Cho who got me to where I am today. What really started it was my passion for music though. I got high off of watching people dance and shake and go crazy it’s really a lot of fun.
Who is your biggest influence(s)?
Like I said, Pretty Lights and also Diplo. Diplo is a mad influence for me. The way he explores different genres and makes them applicable to people, it just makes you want to dance and that’s what I’m all about. Griz and Gramatik and all that weird funky stuff.
What is your favorite party in Chicago?
Anything Bam Creates does. Probably the Industry Sleepover.
Who do you want to collaborate with?
Dillion Francis. All day.
What’s the most embarrassing thing thats happened to you at a show?
I was spinning at the Mid and I forgot my power cord for my controller so I had to mix off of CDjs which is fine, I know how to do that, but there was no link cable and I only had one USB. So I did my best to echo and do weird things out of it but there were some obvious errors. Since then it’s only happened once and I always carry two now.
What do you like to do when you’re not working on music/DJing?
Meditation and yoga but usually I keep busy though.
What is your opinion on the current EDM scene?
I like it. Everyone always talks about how the bubble is going to burst and all that shit, but really it’s adapted. It’s ever growing, ever changing and it’s adapted to people changing what they like. I think the internet has also done amazing things for electronic music.
What do you think will be the next big thing in EDM?
I think that big synthy, electro, banger stuff is going to adapt the same way that dubstep did. I think Skrillex once again has saved the idea of bass music and dubstep. I mean I like that kind of music but a lot of it got too heavy and out of control since Skrillex’s first album and I think he kind of redefined it in the more recent one. I think that’s what’s going to happen with the big electro sound. Producers need to find a new outlet and a new way of expressing that type of energy.
Is there any upcoming releases/shows we should keep an eye out for?
This mix tape is one of the bigger releases from me for this summer. I’m going to be releasing a bootleg pack once I hit 1000 likes on Facebook. Also I’ll be at Spring Awakening Music Festival this year.
