Exclusive Interview: Robots On The Run

This week’s artist spotlight features the duo Robots On The Run who have been making some waves in Chicago lately. They have played alongside many big name artists including Sebastian Ingrosso, Porter Robinson, R3hab and many more. They have also played at Chicago’s EDM festivals such as Spring Awakening and Wavefront.

What made you want to start DJing/producing?

We both have been around the music industry at a young age, I (PDA) have been singing since the young age of 5.

Who is your biggest influence(s)?

Eric Prydz for me he is always pushing the limits with his sets.  He is every Djs favorite DJ for a reason (Daniel Jay).

Whats you’re favorite record of all time?

Thomas Bangalter – Colossus (Daniel Jay)

What is your favorite party in Chicago?

Our partners over at Promose7en throw down an amazing party called The Trap House.  If you haven’t been please do yourself a favor and just go already.

Who do you want to collaborate with?

We like to keep a close circle with remixes, collabs and originals.  We’ve worked with Tony Arzadon, Inphinity, Bill Basil, Chris B , Animale and Porn and Chicken.  Our singers are simply amazing shout out to Brandon Fox and Anthony Bagnara.

Some big names are Daft Punk, Deadmau5, Eric Prydz, Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso.

What’s the most embarrassing thing thats happened to you at a show?

We really can’t remember.  No really.  Usually we do stupid stuff that everyone else tells us, but if we don’t remember it never really happened.

What do you like to do when you’re not working on music/djing?

I take on many projects in the Chicago knight life scene – PDA

Listen to music, watch tutorials, night out with the friends, go to shows, and just chill at home – Daniel Jay

What is your opinion on the current EDM scene?

We love it.  There are so many Djs that think “deep” house is the cool thing and why do clubs want to hear commercial.. First off STFU.  Open your eyes.  5 years ago these same Djs were saying why do clubs play hip hop.  Be happy that clubs are playing more dance music than ever.

What do you think will be the next big thing in EDM?

Live performance is always something that we love.  Our singers perform live with us at most of our festivals.  It brings a whole new element to the performance.

Is there any upcoming releases/shows we should keep an eye out for?

We are deciding on releasing a whole bunch of singles or just give you guys an EP.  We have a track with the lovely Tamra Keenan releasing soon.  Our John Legend remake got taken down off of Soundcloud after 6 days and a couple thousand plays.  You can hear it below.  We are playing with Autograf at Spybar on April 12th and then with Sick Individuals at The Mid in May.
