Exclusive Interview: Statut3

Chicago based Dj, Statut3, has been on the rise lately. He has played at many well known venues around the city and was the winner of a Dj contest  for a spot to play at Chicago’s Midwest Wonderland Festival in the Summer of 2013. He was also voted as one of the finalists for Red Bull’s Dj competition held at NIU. Statut3 was recently booked to play at Spring Awakening Music Festival, so make sure you keep an eye out for this up and coming talent.

Q: What made you want to start DJing?
A: I started DJing last March. My first gig was up at NIU and since then I’ve just been kind’ve pushing to get further and further. What got me into it was watching one of my buddies dj at Northern (NIU) and I thought, this is kind’ve interesting so a couple months later I bought my first set up and here I am.

Q: What is your favorite album/record of all time?
A: Favorite album would probably be Deadmau5’s 4×4=12 and favorite record of all time would be The Veldt, also by Deadmau5.

Q: What is your favorite party in Chicago?
A: Porn & Chicken would be a dream to play because I do like playing the hard electro, but I do like to go to the regular shows at the Mid, I just like the scene there. I also do like the Spybar scene. It’s kind’ve hard to choose just one.

Q: Who would you like to collaborate with?
A: Three big names that stand out to me are Deorro, Deadmau5, and Dyro. Deorro being number one because I love that bounce house, it’s my favorite.

Q: What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you while DJing?
A: Probably hitting the cue button while the song is playing… That’s the worst.

Q: What do you like to do when you’re not working on music/DJing?
A: The thing that probably makes me relax the most would be watching Family Guy, it’s my favorite show in the entire world. But other than that, it’s always music. Whether it’s listening, searching for new songs, making my own or playing, music takes up the majority of my time.

Q: What is your opinion on the current EDM scene?
A: Well I’m big on the electro scene, but the sound of electro right now is so overdone. That’s why I sit in the studio trying to make my own sound. I want to be completely different to what’s in the charts now because it all sounds exactly the same and it needs to be changed.

Q: What do you think is next for EDM?
A: I love the bounce house sound, I know it’s kind’ve been blowing up a little bit over the last few months to a year. I do love that TJR/Deorro sound. Hopefully that grows a bit more.

Q: Is there any upcoming releases/shows we should keep an eye out for?
A: The biggest thing for me is Spring Awakening, that just got announced. Other than that I have a couple of things in the works that haven’t been announced yet. I am working with House Of Chi for their “One Night Stand” tour. I’ll be playing in Dekalb at Rosy’s Roadhouse along with Heros x Villains, Tropkillaz, and Regulators.
